Sarandis quiet for now on departure from WEEI
Entercom Radio announced last Friday that Ted Sarandis would be leaving his 7:00 p.m.-midnight program at Sportsradio 850 WEEI. The classy Sarandis returned a call from Media Blitz and explained that he was currently traveling in Washington, DC and that he would speak publicly about his departure in a week or ten days.
Based on conversations with WEEI staffers and other Boston media sources, it is clear that WEEI made it nearly impossible for Sarandis to continue his highly rated 7:00 p.m.-midnight

NEVER THOUGHT TED SARANDIS DID HIS HOMEWORK ALA EDDIE ANDELMAN. GREAT PERSONALITIES, BUT SHOWED UP UNPREPARED. DON’T EQUATE THE BIG SHOW WITH DENNIS & CALLAHAN. THE BIG SHOW HAS CHARACTERS, BUT ORDWAY BRINGS A CENTER TO IT ALL. IF YOU DON’T GET IT YOU’RE MISSING THE POINT. HE BRINGS HIS POLITICS ON OCCASION [DOESN'T HIDE THEM] BUT UNDERSTANDS HE HAS A SPORTS TALK SHOW THAT CROSSES OVER NOW AND THEN, NOT A CROSSFIRE THAT TOUCHES ON SPORTS OCCASIONALLY. D&C HAS BENT TOWARD SOCIAL COMMENTARY AND BAITING LISTENERS BECAUSE THAT’S THEIR HOOK. MOST OF ORDWAYS GUESTS HAVE A FEEL FOR KEEPING THE SHOW ROLLING IN A “CAN’T-TURN-IT-OFF” WAY. FOR ALL TEDDY’S VIRTUES HE WOULD NOT BEND TOWARD WHAT MAKES WEEI TICK. WE DON’T LISTEN FOR SPORTS ENCYCLOPEDIAS [GAMMONS IS GREAT, BUT NOT FOR 4 HOURS A DAY] WE TUNE IN FOR THE REPARTEE, THE BANTER, THE ENTERTAINMENT.
espn 890 needs to improve its signal at night
I worked for Ted Sarandis & “Ted Nation” for 7 months in 1998 as an Intern & then an Assistant Producer. Sarandis showed up 5 minutes before his shift knowing nothing of what happened in the sports world. I would print out the day’s sports news from the interent & leave it on his desk. He had a wall of stat books behind him that he used to answer questions that callers asked. He would turn off his mic while turning the pages & then turn it back on to answer the questions as if it were personal knowledge.
Sarandis only took a few female callers a night & he didn’t like to talk to callers with what he called “weird names” & “foreign accents”. I know this because I screened his callers. While I was there, his Producer, Rene Marchando, quit because of the way Sarandis treated him. Ultimately, that’s the reason I also left “Ted Nation”. It was a bad career decision, but I was a happier person for it. Sarandis knew about College Basketball & the MLB. Aside from that, he really took no interest in other sports. Sarandis will be back in the spotlight eventually. His fan base will see to it. He has a radio personality that makes you want to listen. However, as a person, Sarandis leaves much to be desired.
I don’t know what he was like off the air… maybe he was a jerk… how can one respond to accusations from people who claim to know him. However all I know was he fooled me and I thought he was a good host. Maybe I am the fool but thanks Ted.
I enjoyed listening to Ted. I thought he brought a different and a little more intelegent opinion to the show at night. The fun and games and jokes get old after a while. I say thanks Ted.
I thought Ted played the “moral authority” card too often. He would often berate the Boston sports fan for not caring about college sports or for not liking to watch other teams than the Boston pro teams. He would go on monologues when a caller disagreed and then you would never hear the caller’s response. It seemed to me that you usually would be cut off if you didn’t open your comments with praise for him or his show. In the end though it was the chip on his shoulder that colored much of what he would discuss that I believe did him in. I thought it was amazing that he lasted as long as he did with his serious tone and often grouchy and short treatment of callers. Anywsy, I wish him well and believe he does a great job calling sports games.
