I would like to be the first to sound the danger alarm for EEI on this new midday show. The Dale/Holley chemistry, while perhaps fine on a personal level, doesn’t translate to compelling radio. In fact it has proven to be boring as hell. Neumie was one of the most underrated talents in Boston and carried the show. Everybody loves Holley, I know, but does he have enough edge to elicit any kind of strong feeling, pro or con?
why anyone would care about bob ryan’s opinion on basketball is beyond me. blount was good last year, but a “nightmare” this year? that is not an honest journalistic admission of error, it is an exhibit of basketball ignorance. blount is the same player this year as he was last year. he has always been a bad rebounder. basketball illiterates like bob rely on stats and were impressed by a few big rebounding nights for blount last year. mark blount has never grabbed a rebound away from an opponent or in a crowd that he was not entitled to.
bob and the globe staff constantly rewrite history. now ryan blames o’brien for antoine’s past shot selection? did ryan or any other globe writer ever criticize o’brien for letting antoine (or paul) shoot 30 shots a game when it was actually happening? the answer is an unequivocal no. in fact ryan and friends at the globe roundly praised o’brien as a solid coach, even sympathizing with his decision to bolt ainge’s impending disaster.
since the celts made the low cost, low risk (mere details that bob omitted from his critical article) trade for antoine, the celts are 8-1. so now the back-pedalling starts. bob never questioned antoine’s effort. really? i remember the antoine is a “punk” article, and i remember several references to antoine’s affinity for fried chicken and to him being overweight. but now you “never questioned his effort”, sure bob.
for a basketball expert, ryan neglects to mention anything about ricky davis, who is clearly (to knowledgeable fans) the linchpin of this year’s team. i guess the globe staff is still in a hangover from all of the “ricky davis doesn’t play defense” declarations last year. funny how they don’t write that anymore.
“I can remember going over to (ex-Celtics coach) Jim O
The previous fellow, commenting, has some very clear and, I think, true issues with Ryan,. I know Ryan still goes to the games and I think ownes a season’s ticket FOR YEARS THAT HE HAS NOT GIVEN UP ON.He is an oldtime Celts’ fan like myself who grew up watching even Togo Pallazi. He does know basketball and love the team, so I have to cut him some slack on all this business since haven’t we all had a schizoid relationship with Toine from all times. And it was Eric Williams, when asked about Toine’s threes’ who said,” Well, when the coach gives a man free reign and telling him that is the shot that he wants, what does a ballplayer do?” He plays for that coach. But the comments made here were good.
