the sox are FAR from a national laughingstock, as the best national sports show on TV, PTI, said, Theo’s return is a local story. And a national laughingstock is Arizona Cardinals or Isiah Thomas, not the Red Sox.
John,
Great job. The Big Show bully pulpit is a joke. The crew feeds off each other to reach new levels of ridiculousness. I’m hoping that ESPN puts some money into 890 to overtake WEEI’s monopoly. Keep it up!

Bill Belichick is not quite analogous in this context. His approach is calculated. He’s not embarrassed or scared to answer questions. He just wants to keep everything in house, so that nothing can come back to haunt him on the field. Theo and the trio, however, at least from Ordway’s perspective, did not decline a press conference because of an organizational philosophy. They did so because they have wrapped themselves in a melodrama, which is not about bases and balls, but about front office egos.
Personally, I don’t think the trio was necessarily “scared”. They were very open the next day on WEEI. I think they preferred direct interviews to a press conference, because it is more conducive to an honest dialogue with the fans. A press conference would be nothing more than a public spectacle to make them look stupid. Interviews, however, as on WEEI, are more personal, and allow the Red Sox to answer the questions without a circus about them.

Hello do you listen to anything else besides Boston media? The Red Sox ARE a “national laughingstock” right now.
